How to publish an event

Publish a draft event in Admin so people can see it, and fix the most common reasons publishing is blocked.

Updated October 1, 2026

Every new event starts as a draft. Only your team can see a draft. When you publish it, the event goes live and you can start sharing it, posting updates and scanning tickets. If you haven't created the event yet, see Create your first event.

Before you publish

A draft needs two things before it can be published. Both are marked Required on the Info tab:

  • A Description
  • A Location

The event also needs a cover image. Every new event gets a default cover image, so you only need to change it if you want your own. See How to add a cover image to an event.

Publish the event

  1. In Admin, select Events in the sidebar.
  2. Open the Drafts tab and select your event.
  3. Select Publish at the top of the page.

When the event is live, you see Event published. and the event moves to the Events tab.

What changes after publishing

  • View event page and Share appear at the top of the event.
  • The Posts, Insights and Attendees tabs become available.
  • Scan tickets appears and stays until the event has ended.

You can't turn a published event back into a draft. You can still edit it, or cancel it. See How to cancel an event.

If you can't publish

  • Admin opens the description or location editor instead of publishing. That field is missing. Add it, save, then select Publish again.
  • Publish is greyed out. Your organization is still under review, and you can only publish public events after it has been approved. Until then you can publish the event as private. See Public and private events.
  • You don't see Publish at all. The event belongs to another organization and you are a co-host. Only the organization that created the event can publish it.
  • You see "The event could not be published. Make sure all required information is complete." Check that the description and location are filled in, then try again.
