How to join or create a group in the app
Find, join and leave groups in the Orbi app, or create your own group for a class, project or shared interest.
Updated October 1, 2026
Groups are informal communities of students, for example for a class project or a shared interest. Members can post and comment in the group. Groups are run by students, not by organizations.
Groups are part of Campus. To use them, you need to have selected your school. On the Campus tab, tap Select school if you haven't done so yet.
Find a group
On the Campus tab, tap Groups. You see My groups and Explore groups. You can also search for groups in Search Orbi.
Join a group
Open the group and tap Join.
- Public groups: you join right away. Anyone can see the group's members and posts.
- Private groups: your request shows Awaiting approval until an admin or moderator accepts it. Only members can see the members and posts.
Hidden groups can only be found by their members. To join one, ask a member to add you.
Group notifications
You get notifications about new posts in groups you are a member of. To turn them off for one group, open the group, tap the box with the group's name and turn on Mute post notifications.
Leave a group
- Open the group and tap the box with the group's name.
- Tap Leave group, then Leave.
If you are the only admin, you first need to choose a new admin. Tap Choose admin and pick a member.
To cancel a request to a private group, tap Withdraw application in the same place.
Create a group
- On the Campus tab, tap the + button and select Create group. You can also tap Create group on the Groups screen.
- Add a cover image, a Name (up to 50 characters) and a Description (optional).
- Under Additional settings, choose:
- Privacy: Public or Private
- Visibility (private groups only): Visible, so anyone can find the group, or Hidden, so only members can find it
- Who can add members: Anyone or Admins & moderators
- Tap Create.
You become the group's admin. To invite people, open the group's details and tap Add members. To manage members and requests, see How to manage a group in the app.
