Require another membership to join

Only let people join your membership if they already have an active membership of another kind.

Updated October 1, 2026

You can make a membership available only to people who already hold one or more other memberships. For example, a club membership that requires a student union membership. People must have an active membership of the required kind when they join.

Add required memberships

  1. Open the membership in Admin and go to the Info tab.
  2. In Required memberships, select Required, or click Add memberships.
  3. Search for the memberships you want to require and select them.
  4. Click Add.

Changes are saved right away.

Require one or all

When you have added more than one membership, choose what people need under Require:

  • At least one membership: Having any one of them is enough.
  • All memberships: People must have every one of them.

Remove required memberships

  • To remove one, open the list of required memberships, click the remove button next to it, and confirm with Remove.
  • To remove all of them, select None in Required memberships and confirm with Remove all.

Limitations

  • An invite-only membership cannot be required.
  • A membership cannot require itself.
  • Required memberships cannot be changed on memberships synced from an external system.

If a change fails, you will see Could not update required memberships.
