FAM is one of the most diverse student associations in Amsterdam, with many of our members being part of a diaspora. Diaspora Dialogues is a series where we hold space for sharing and discussing the experience of being part of a diaspora. In three sessions, we’ll explore how we connect with our communities, addressing topics such as authenticity, representation, and the emotional aspects of displacement. At this first dialogue, we will discuss self-image and sense of belonging, as well as the effects of the Western gaze and cultural appropriation on identity.
